DEMA 2006: I Like the Mares Display AND Their New Travel BCs

Some of the displays at DEMA are closed-in, contained, and store-like. I think the idea is that if you're inside the booth, you may feel more private, it'll be easier to hear, and you'll linger longer. Personally, though, when I'm in those booths, I feel like I'm trapped. Consequently, I was pretty pleased with Mares' open layout -- as well as the content within it...
In addition to showcasing their new line of colorful, "fashionable" dive gear for the upcoming season --

-- they were also proudly displaying some of their new BCs.

As someone who hates bulky BCs, I was immediately drawn to their new travel BCs, the Icon (for men) and the Aliikai (for women). When folded, the BCs are super-compact -- roughly the size of a large travel-pillow...but maybe a little harder.

When unfurled, however, the BCs are standard-issue, with 5 D-rings, dual-position hose clips, and more. Here's the Icon...
And here's the Aliikai...

Each BC comes with its own, handy bag into which you can stuff it -- assuming, of course, you can fold it back the way it came!

This photo may not be ideal, but it gives a nice sense of the size of the unfurled BC compared to the folded-up version. In case you can't tell, the folded BC is sitting above the unfolded one.
