DEMA 2006: Rebreathers Everywhere

Rebreathers are popular at DEMA this year. I could've spent hours shooting pictures of rebreathers and digging into them. However, I selected just a few booths at which to stop and view their selection. First, I hit Silent Diving's booth.
They had about a dozen rebreathers in their booth -- all identical -- like giant yellow bushes planted in their assigned spaces. It was kind of surreal. I tried to photograph the scene, but I couldn't back up far enough to get the whole rebreather-farm in the frame.

The Inspiration Closed Circuit is the first CE approved closed circuit breathing system -- it's approved to 150 feet with air as the diluent gas and 300 feet with Heliox as the diluent. The Inspiration comes standard with Trim Weight Pockets, APD Communicator software and PC interface, Head-Up Displays, Dual Power Supplies, Audible Warnings, and Automatic Setpoint Switch.

My head reeling from all that rebreather jargon, I headed over to Closed Circuit Research and checked out their Ouroboros Rebreather. Cleverly-named, the Ouroboros is fully redundant and features manual override on all the primary functions.

Featuring a carbon Kevlar shell, plug-in gas compatibility for boat/bailout scenarios, and data logging and training modes, the Ouroboros also boasts hands-free operation and head-mounted displays.

When I saw the sticker on the inside that read "DEATH" in big red letters, I decided it was time to go see something else.
