DEMA 2006: SeaQuest's Brand New Pro QD BC

SeaQuest has redesigned their Pro QD BC, and it's totally cool. Whereas their old model was fairly de rigeur, the new version is spiffed up pretty well with some innovative new features. Plus, who doesn't love red?
One of the coolest things about the new Pro QD is the way the octopus is handled. Rather than drag behind the diver, the octopus is placed inside a little pocket of its own -- called an Octo Pocket -- where it sits patiently until it's needed. Stored right inside the BC, the octo can be easily and simply removed if needed. In the past, sometimes I've stuck my octo underneath my shoulder strap to keep it out of the way. Who knew that if I'd sewn a little pocket inside my BC and pitched it to AquaLung, I could've retired.

The REALLY cool, new feature on the Pro QD is its inflator/deflator. No longer a hose that does double-duty as a purge valve, the new inflator/deflator is an intuitive design: lift a red tab, and the BC inflates; depress a red tab, and the BC deflates. This is a cool, no-duh kind of design leap -- the tab is right where your hands are; it's simple to use (tab up...body up); and there's less to get all tangled up with up near your shoulders. Between the Octo Pocket and the new inflator tab, I think the Pro QD is the coolest BC on the market.

The newly-designed Pro QD will be available in January for $655.
