Adhami Enters Plea of "Not Guilty"

I don’t know if you guys are bored with Omid Adhami or not.  I don’t want to belabor an issue that is uninteresting to others; however, yesterday Adhami pled “Not Guilty” to charges stemming from the killing of a giant sea bass. Adhami faces a maximum of 2½ years in prison and $21,000 in fines if convicted.

I don’t know how he justifies this plea. Lifeguards watched Adhami and 2 friends pull the protected fish into the boat; they watched them celebrate with “a round of high fives”; and police found him with the dead fish in his boat. Evidently, Adhami is claiming he didn’t know he was in the La Jolla marine reserve and should not, therefore, be liable. Rubbish. If Adhami were driving 100 miles per hour in a neighborhood and police stopped him, I believe he’d still be breaking the law, even if he claimed not to know the speed limit.  Isn’t the rule: Ignorance of the law is no excuse?
